Leading trekking and adventure company in Nepal offering unforgettable Himalayan experiences.
The Nar-Phu Valley, renowned for its remote setting and centuries-old culture, hides a remarkable gem for climbers: Himlung Himal. Located northeast of the Annapurna range, Himlung rises to an impressive 7,126 meters. It stands at the eastern edge of the Phu Valley, near the border with Tibet, marked by its neighboring peak, Himlung East. One of Himlung’s key attractions is its relatively low technical difficulty and reduced risk of avalanches and rockfalls, making it one of the safer 7,000-meter peaks to climb.
The route to Himlung follows the Annapurna Circuit up to Koto, then branches into the Nar-Phu Valley. Thanks to recent improvements in the road to Koto, the journey has become more comfortable, offering a stunning and adventurous drive through diverse landscapes, deep gorges, waterfalls, and remote villages. Along the way, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking views of peaks like Ratna Chuli, Gyaji Khang, and Nemjung.
Himlung Base Camp is set at 4,900 meters, with three higher camps established at 5,450m, 6,000m, and 6,350m. The final section to the summit features steeper, icy terrain. Typically, climbers need about 10 to 15 days to ascend and return to base camp. Opened to climbers in 1992 and first summited by a Japanese team that same year, Himlung has seen a surge in successful ascents—especially after Swiss climber Kari Kobler established a safer route in 2013.
Although Himlung is considered less technical than many other peaks, climbers still need to be in excellent physical condition to tackle it. The mountain offers an unforgettable adventure in an isolated setting, combining a beautiful trekking approach with a rewarding summit experience.
Please note that parts of the Annapurna region, including Nar-Phu, are restricted areas. International climbers are required to obtain special permits and be accompanied by a licensed guide. GoldenGate Tours and Travel will handle all necessary permits and paperwork on your behalf, and with our experienced climbing guides, we are fully committed to making your summit dreams a reality.
